I highly recommend Blue Ocean’s Chef Specialty Roll for all spicy tuna lovers. The spicy tuna was high quality; it tasted a lot fresher than most that I’ve had. The garnish, spicy mayo, and eel sauce also elevated the dish.

I highly recommend Love Boat Sushi’s Padres Roll. That soft shell crab hit the spot—very crunchy and flavorful. During my second time, I tried the Chef Special Roll and it's my new favorite. The freshness of the spicy tuna won me over.

Mikko Sushi has become one of my favorite sushi spots. They have a large selection of creative rolls and Japanese entrees! My favorite rolls so far are the Escondido, Mikko, and Twister.

Umami Japanese is a great spot for sushi in San Marcos. They have a wide variety of rolls to choose from and I had the Spicy Crunch because it came with spicy tuna and shrimp tempura. It tasted as good as it looked! I enjoyed the freshness of the tuna, and it went well with the spicy mayo and eel sauce. I’ll be back to try more rolls!

Hooked on Sushi has a large selection of sushi and locations in Carlsbad, San Marcos, and Encinitas! I loved their Killer Salmon Roll, which came with salmon, spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, and a mixture of sauces. The highlight was their “captain sauce,” which tasted like a sweet chili sauce. I’d come back to try their other rolls!

Sushi Lounge has a great happy hour (every day except Mon, 4-6 pm). I got the Chronic Roll from their happy hour menu because I love my spicy tuna. The tuna was great, but the roll would’ve been even better with spicy mayo or another sauce.

Umi Japanese Grill & Sushi is a solid spot for cheaper sushi in Downtown Oceanside. I went with the Salmon Crunch Roll because I’m always craving rolls with spicy mayo and shrimp tempura. I wish there was more spicy mayo and the salmon didn’t really stand out. Overall, it was a pretty good roll for a reasonable price.

Rolled Up at the Windmill Food Hall is known for their sushi burritos. I just went with the Crunchy Lil Guy roll because I'm a sucker for any roll with shrimp tempura, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. It was a very standard roll though.
