New Orleans

Ruby Slipper

Food Rating: 10/10

Ruby Slipper is my absolute favorite restaurant in New Orleans. If you’re visiting the city, you must give any of their locations are a try, even if the wait is abysmal. My server recommended the Peacemaker so you can try both the Eggs Cochon and Chicken St. Charles. I *implore* you to eat at Ruby Slipper!

Po-boys are a New Orleans staple and Parkway is the place to go for them. The James Brown was the best of both worlds because it came with the fried shrimp AND roast beef. This is one of my favorite restaurants in New Orleans and I highly, highly recommend.

Cafe Beignet

Parkway Bakery and Tavern

Willie Mae's Scotch House

Food Rating: 10/10

Cafe Beignet makes the best beignets in New Orleans. They have the perfect balance of crispiness and fluffiness, and their dough is unlike any other.

I absolutely loved Willie Mae’s Fried Chicken and Mac & Cheese. The chicken was fried and seasoned to perfection. I appreciated the kick!

Cafe Du Monde

You can’t go wrong with beignets from Cafe du Monde. There’s always an egregiously long line to order. But don’t fret; the line moves quickly and it’s very worth. We aren’t coffee drinkers but they’re also known for their coffee!

Gumbo Shop

If you want a classic Cajun dining experience in NOLA, start off at the Gumbo Shop. Their Chicken Andouille Gumbo converted me to a gumbo lover.

Acme Oyster Shop

Food Rating: 9/10

Acme is one of NOLA’s most highly revered restaurants—Adam Richman (Man v. Food) ate 15 dozen oysters here! I’m not much of an oyster fan, but their Chargrilled Oysters converted me.

Oceana Grill

Food Rating: 8/10

Oceana Grill offers a medley of Cajun food options, so it’s a great spot to try various dishes in one sitting. I ordered the Taste of New Orleans, which came with Jambalaya (favorite), Red Beans & Rice, and Crawfish Etouffée (least favorite).
